Rochester is home to two National Historic Landmarks. George Eastman House, International Museum of Photography and Film contains one of the largest collections of photographs, motion pictures, and photographic equipment in the world. The Susan B. Anthony House was the home of the legendary American civil rights leader during the most politically active period of her life, and the site of her famous arrest for voting in 1872.
Acclaimed as New York State’s finest comprehensive art museum outside of New York City, the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG) is a spectacular landmark that houses one of the most impressive art collections in the state.
The Rochester cultural scene is also filled with many small and unique galleries waiting to be explored.

Reflections of the Heart: Photographs by David Seymour. January 20 through April 22. www.eastmanhouse.org. A survey exhibition of 75 photographs taken by founding Magnum photographer, David Seymour, also known as Chim, who was heralded as a photojournalist and editorial pictorialist. Anxious Objects: Willie Cole’s Favorite Brands. January 21-March 11. www.mag.rochester.edu. Fun, funky and provocative, Willie Cole’s work reflects his urban, African-American experience. By Africanizing, or ritualizing, common western objects, he constructs bridges to other times and cultures. Pollock on Paper. February 2-April 15. www.mag.rochester.edu. “Pollock on Paper” explores two portfolios by the master of abstraction-Jackson Pollock. The first, a group of six etchings with drypoint done in 1944, three years before his iconic action painting breakthrough; and the other, a series of six serigraphs created in 1951-four years after. Since its first exhibit in 1992, the Center at High Falls has represented more than 2000 area artists. Anderson Alley Artists is a community of artists with studios on the second, third, and fourth floors of Village Gate (above Fabrics & Findings), in a former factory building at 250 N.
