25 Cool Ways to Live Well
Preferred Care wants to help you live well. And what better time than during Coldrush? The winter months in Rochester offer many different outdoor and indoor pursuits to get your body and mind moving. Get out and participate in an official Coldrush activity...or, create your own Coldrush every day with one of these ideas!
1 - Dust off a sled and pull some kids down the sidewalk.
2 - Can't ski or snowboard? Make tubing your winter sport of choice.It's a scream!
3 - Instead of climbing the corporate ladder, climb a wall at Rock Ventures.
4- Smoking is definitely not cool for lungs. Don't do it, or at least cut back if you do smoke.
5 - Turn off the Weather Channel and see for yourself what the weather's like...and make a snow angel while you're out there.
6 - Take a winter hike through beautifully landscaped Mt. Hope Cemetery. See who can find Susan B's headstone first.
7 - Get a taste of Florida and avoid scurvy eat an orange or grapefruit every day.
8 - Keep the water flowing drinking 8 glasses a day is best, but drinking any amount of water is good for your body to stay hydrated.
9 - Try your hand (and feet) at ice skating. Nearly a dozen area rinks offer open skating times, rentals, and construction cones to hold you up on the ice.
10 - It's all downhill if you go sledding at Ellison or any of several other are parks.
11 - Try snowshoeing at Mendon Ponds Park or anywhere there's snow to walk in. You can even run in them!
12 - Shovel your driveway the old-fashioned way (check with your doctor first if you have health concerns).
13 - Ice climbing an acquired taste and skill, but you may find you like the physical challenge.
14 - Build a snowman, snowwoman or snow family there's plenty of snow to use this winter!
15 - Join the Polar Bear Club and swim outdoors...if you dare.
16 - Host a soup party have everyone bring a heart-healthy recipe and crock to share.
17 - Make homemade snow cones with fruit juice flavors use only fresh-fallen snow!
18 - Take a winter trek to the Rochester Public Market for fresh foods from the farm.
19 - Get out the bread machine you never used and bake whole grain bread.
20 - Be flexible. Take a Ta'i Chi, yoga, or Pilates class great stress-busters!
21 - Bundle up and go raptor watching at Braddock Bay Park. The hawk-watching platform is manned from mid-February until June.
22 - Go fishin'... ice fishin', of course.
23 - Go for a sleigh ride with your family or friends.
24 - Get your feet wet with winter camping pitch your tent in your backyard for practice.
25 - Join a Rochester Curling Club league. It's more than a broom and a stone, eh?
